Bank stocks in Europe slide as fears grow over contagion from SVB collapse


European bank stocks have tumbled in Monday's trading in the wake of the collapse of SVB.

Last week Silicon Valley Bank, which counted many tech firms amongst its clients, became the second-largest financial institution to fail in U.S. history.

HSBC rescues UK tech firms' SVB deposits in government deal

There is relief in the UK among the country’s tech firms, following HSBC’s takeover of the British arm of the failed Silicon Valley Bank.

Following all-night talks between the British government, HSBC bosses and the Bank of England, HSBC has secured depositors’ investments, at no taxpayers’ expense.

Nigeria’s Economy Loses 45 Billion Dollars in Cash Mop Up Policy

Japan drops masks

US government steps in to protect SVB depositors following collapse

People and businesses with accounts at the failed Silicon Valley Bank will be able to access their money following an intervention from the federal government.


The US Treasury, the Federal Reserve and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation on Sunday confirmed depositors would be fully protected  following the collapse of what was the country's 16th largest lender — that is until regulators seized its assets on Friday.

US officials say SVB depositors will have access to all their money

The US Treasury and banking regulators say people with deposits in the collapsed Silicon Valley Bank will have access to all of their money starting Monday.

A major lender for the tech sector SVB's shutdown marked the biggest U.S. bank failure in 15 years.

Texas women sued for wrongful death after allegedly helping a friend get an abortion

Three women in Texas are being sued for wrongful death after they allegedly helped a friend get an abortion. The suit has been filed by the woman's ex-husband. It's the first such case since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade last year.

Hot job market in the United States earns Biden praise, but fuels inflation woes

President Joe Biden insists his economic plan is "working" and the country is "heading in the right direction" after the US posted another strong jobs report. 


The economy added 311,000 jobs in February, according to the Labor Department's closely watched monthly employment snapshot released on Friday.



But that figure represents a relative decline from a blockbuster January report, when a revised 504,000 jobs were added. The unemployment rate has also ticked up slightly to 3.6%.

At least 7 dead in Hamburg Jehovah's Witness attack
