Syria appeals for assistance from the U.N

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations has appealed to
U.N Secretary General, Antonio Guterres for urgent assistance.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria on Monday morning
leaving thousands dead and several injured.
Speaking from the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Bassam
Sabbagh said, Syria is in urgent need of rescue personnel, medical
supplies and humanitarian aid.

US Navy searches for parts after Chinese balloon shot down

The US military is continuing its search for debris from the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon shot down by American fighter jets on Saturday. 


Navy divers are now working to recover remnants off the coast of South Carolina to find more information about the balloon's payload that could provide an insight for US intelligence agencies into China's spying capabilities.

Turkey earthquake: Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu trapped under rubble


Ghanaians have taken to social media to pray for former Black Stars player Christian Atsu who is reported to be missing after an earthquake in Turkey.

A search and rescue operation is ongoing to find the footballer and others who may be trapped under rubble.

DELL TO LAY OFF 6,650 WORKERS AS PC MARKET COOLS

Dell is the latest tech company to announce mass layoffs. The Texas-based PC maker said on Monday that it plans to slash 5% of its workforce - that's about 6,650 employees. U.N Secretary General saddened by the loss of life in Türkiye and Syria earthquake

U.N Secretary General Antonio Guiterres has sent condolences to the

and Syria.

EU sends search and rescue teams to Türkiye

Several European Union countries are sending rescue teams into Türkiye to assist first responders with the search for survivors and efforts to limit the devastation wrought by a powerful earthquake.

Ankara submitted a request for help under the EU's civil protection mechanism. Brussels says it also stands ready to support those affected in Syria.

India to send aid to earthquake hit Turkey

 Intro:

India is now also planning on sending assistance to earthquake-hit Turkey.

Expressing his grief over the deaths, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India stands in solidarity with Turkey.

FRENCH PENSION REFORM PLAN TO GO BEFORE PARLIAMENT



The Macron government's controversial pension reform plan goes before the French parliament today/ Monday/February 6, with fierce debate expected among MPs.
