Hong Kong's economic slowdown worse than expected

Hong Kong’s economy is facing a long road to recovery after shrinking 3 point 5 percent last year. It’s the third time in the past four years the city’s economy has recorded negative growth.

Japan eyeing G-7 video summit in February, 1st anniv. of Ukraine war

Japan is hoping to hold a Group of Seven summit online on Feb. 24, the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine

US Defense Secretary to discuss access to military bases with Filipino president

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has arrived in the Philippines where he will meet with the country's president Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

They are expected to discuss expanding US access to the country's military bases, which would help Washington counter Chinese influence in the region.

The two countries have been working on the defense agreement for almost a decade but have made little progress so far, as  FSN's Nick Harper reports from Washington

Markets reassured by slower rate hike

Markets rallied on Wednesday following comments from the Federal Reserve that inflation is falling.


The central bank announced it would raise interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point - a slower rise than throughout 2022.

Federal Reserve raises rates by 0.25%

The US Federal Reserve has raised interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. 


On Wednesday the central bank announced its first rate decision of the year as it continues to tackle rapid inflation.

UK manufacturing sector continues to contract

The British manufacturing sector contracted in January - for the sixth consecutive month. Data from S&P Global found companies are continuing to experience headwinds including weak demand and staff shortages - but economists say there are signs that the worst of the downturn may be over. Biden & McCarthy meet over debt ceiling

U.S. police brutality victim Tyre Nichols' honored at funeral in Memphis

Eurozone inflation falls for third consecutive month

Inflation in the twenty countries which use the euro currency has fallen for the third month in a row.


According to flash estimates released on Wednesday, Eurozone annual inflation stood at 8.5% in January, down from record double-digit rates recorded in the second half of last year.

Teachers go on strike in UK

Thousands of schools in the UK are either closed or offering reduced services, as hundreds of thousands of teachers have gone out on strike.

They're the latest profession to join the wave of industrial action, as workers fight for higher wages amid a spiralling cost of living.

Mike Furnham is a history teacher in Cardiff, who decided to strike for the first time in his 26 year career.

S Korea and US agree to escalate war drills

South Korea and the United States are planning to step-up their joint military exercises to counter missile threats from North Korea.
