Migrants die crossing English Channel
Several people have died after a boat carrying migrants ran into difficulties on the English Channel.
A government source said forty three people were rescued and brought to the UK.
The UK coastguard, the French Navy and an air ambulance were sent to help with the rescue operation on Monday.
Images from the scene show people wearing life-jackets sitting in an inflatable dinghy, being helped into a lifeboat.
It comes as temperatures have plunged across the UK, bringing snow and ice to parts of the country.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman said her "heartfelt thoughts" were with those involved, calling the incident "distressing".
More than 40,000 people have crossed the Channel this year in small boats.
Jess Sharman from the charity Care4Calais says the British government needs to do more.
