This makes him the first Cabinet member to resign under Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's government.

US charges alleged Chinese spies

The U.S. Justice Department has announced charges against 10 alleged Chinese government spies and three other Chinese nationals in three separate cases.


Two of the suspected spies are accused of interfering with a federal prosecution against a global telecommunications company based in China.

Teenager pleads guilty to 4 of his classmates in Michigan school shooting

Eurozone economy unlikely to escape recession as downturn persists: PMI

The Eurozone looks unlikely to avoid a recession, according to a new survey which suggests a further economic contraction in the fourth quarter.


According to flash estimates, S&P's Global Eurozone PMI Composite Output Index dropped to 47.1 in October, down from 48.1 in September.

Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak could be announced leader of the Conservative Party on Monday after Liz Truss announced she would stand down last week.


But House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt is also in the running, if she can secure 100 backers to put her on the ballot.


If she's successful, Conservative Members of Parliament will vote on Monday and then Party members could have their say later this week.

EU readies for COP27 amid climate promise doubts

European Union environment ministers are gathering today to hash out their negotiating position for the COP27 climate summit, to be held next month in Egypt. 


Since the invasion of Ukraine, EU countries have been scrambling to replace Russian gas imports by burning more coal and signing new fossil fuel deals. That's sparking fears that the energy crisis may derail the bloc's big climate promises.
