Putin vows tough response to attacks 'against Russia'

Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed a harsh response to what he called 'terrorism against Russia' following an explosion on the bridge to annexed Crimea. At least ten people were killed in attacks across Ukraine early on Monday, in which the capital Kyiv was targeted for the first time in months. The Russian president said his forces launched high-precision weapons at military, energy and communication facilities.

UK Chancellor to publish spending plans early

Air France and Airbus go on trial over 2009 Rio-Paris plane crash

The trial begins today / Monday / October 10 of Air France and Airbus for involuntary manslaughter over the crash in 2009.

It was en route from Rio to Paris and went down in the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 people on board.

English barristers vote to end strike after government offer

Criminal barristers in England and Wales have voted to end their long-running strike after accepting a government pay offer.


Lawyers will return to work this week following more than a month of industrial action.


Hundreds of trials have been delayed due to the strikes.

RUSSIAN STRIKES TARGET UKRAINE

Ukraine's capital Kyiv has been hit by a series of explosions which officials say were Russian missile strikes.

There have been attacks in several other locations across Ukraine.

Delhi state minister resigns after controversy over a mass religious conversion event

North Korea confirms progress towards nuclear test 

North Korea says the spate of missiles it launched last week were in preparation for a nuclear weapons test. 

Pyongyang has launched seven missiles since the end of September, one of which flew over Japan into the Pacific Ocean.
