GAS EXPECTED TO LEAK FOR NORD STREAM FOR A WEEK: DANISH AUTHORITIES

Russia has rejected suggestions it was behind explosions on two gas pipelines which are leaking gas in the Baltic Sea. 

The EU has said the leaks, which began on Monday local time, are the result of foul play - stopping short of blaming Moscow - but pledging to investigate what caused the Nord Stream pipelines to rupture.

The European Union's foreign policy chief says all available information indicates that leaks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines are the result of a deliberate act. 


The pipelines were built to funnel gas from Russia into Germany; they've been at the centre of geopolitical tensions in recent months, with gas supplies disrupted in suspected Russian retaliation to EU sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine.


Moscow says it is "extremely concerned" about the gas leaks.

UK RESISTS IMF CALLS FOR ECONOMY U-TURN

The UK government insists it's sticking to its plan for the economy despite scathing criticism from the International Monetary Fund.

The IMF says the UK should re-evaluate its package of tax cuts, which the global financial institution claims will worsen inequality and increase inflationary pressure.

US to table UN resolution condemning ‘sham’ referenda in Ukraine

The United States says it will table a United Nations Security Council
resolution condemning the referenda in Russian controlled parts of
Ukraine.

And in an address at the UN, Ukraine's President urged the
international community to further isolate Moscow.

It's speculated that Russia's President Vladimir Putin may announce
the annexation of four Ukrainian regions as early as Friday.

Hurricane Ian heads to Florida amid warnings of "major disaster"

EU border agency reports rapid rise in Russians entering the bloc

66,000 Russian citizens entered the European Union last week, a 30% rise compared to the previous week. That's according to Frontex, the EU's border management agency.


Last Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military call-up to bolster troop numbers fighting in Ukraine. Widespread reports of Russians fleeing the country to dodge conscription have emerged since then.
