Sudan Civil Service Strikes

INTRO

Sudan's civil strikes over unpaid salaries and the government's failure to implement the 2022 salary structure continue.


Junior doctors extended their strike for three days starting from Wednesday, while striking government servants in North Darfur entered their second month of industrial action.

Russia spars with Ukraine and its allies at UN

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has traded barbs with his U.S.

Pressure piles on Trump with FBI and NY investigations

The US Justice Department can, pending an appeal, continue reviewing classified records seized by the FBI from former President Donald Trump's Florida home.


That's according to a three-judge federal appeals panel which sided with the Justice Department, blocking a ruling that would have delayed the criminal investigation into the highly sensitive documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate, as Benji Hyer reports.

U.S NAVY SCAMMER RE-ARRESTED

Venezuela authorities have arrested a Malaysia businessman after he
scammed the US Navy.
He was arrested in 2013, and pleaded guilty in 2015 to offering in
bribes to navy officers that saw the funnelling of official work
towards his shipyards.

U.S. sanctions Iran's morality police for abuse against women, as protests grow

The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned Iran's morality police for abuse and violence against Iranian women, and for violating the rights of peaceful protestors.

It comes as more and more people join demonstrations in Iran, against the death of a woman in police custody.

Interest Rate hiked again

Guns seized at U.S. airport security points are on pace to break record

The number of guns found at U.S. airport checkpoints is on pace to break a record this year.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration says it has already intercepted more than 4,600 firearms - the vast majority of them loaded.

Bank of England raises interest rates


The Bank of England has raised interest rates by 0.5 percent.

The UK's central bank also warned the country may already be in a recession, as it announced rates are going up to 2.25 percent.

Chinese space team takes top accolade at the IAF Space awards in Paris

The team in charge of the ambitious Tianwen-1 mission to Mars has won the international astronautical federation's most prestigious prize at the annual space awards, held in Paris this week.

It's a feat that has only been achieved twice- getting wheels on the Red Planet, Mars.

 

China's space ambitions are clearly coming ahead in leaps and bounds, with the IAF saying the Tianwen-1 team has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of deep space exploration technology. 

 

The Tianwen-1 scientists telling the crowd when accepting Wednesday's award, that they're planning further missions- also inviting scientists from other countries to join them as they continue to explore deep space.

Protests spread in Iran over woman's death in custody

At least eight people have been killed in violent protests that have spread across Iran following the death of a woman who was detained for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly.

Floods wash hundreds of bodies from Nigerian cemetery

The world is failing the people of Myanmar: UN Special Rapporteur

The United Nations' Special Rapporteur for the human rights situation in Myanmar says the world is failing the people of the violence-stricken southeast Asian country.

Speaking to journalists in Geneva, Tom Andrews said atrocities are being committed in Myanmar; he warned the human rights situation is worsening and said people are enduring "living hell."


Myanmar is currently under military rule following a 2021 coup. The nation's military leaders were subject to fresh international condemnation earlier this year when four pro-democracy activists were executed.

ENGLAND'S DOCTORS GIVEN TWO WEEK TARGET

Doctors in England are being told they need to be able to offer patients appointments within two weeks.

The new UK government says GP surgeries will be able to recruit more staff, and the National Health Service will roll out new telephone systems to manage demand.

The NHS is dealing with a huge post-covid backlog which is contributing to long delays for many patients.

The Royal College of GPs says the proposals will have "minimal impact".

But Health Secretary Therese Coffey says the support will help surgeries currently struggling.

Indian court to hear petitions seeking right to worship Hindu idols inside a Mosque
