Nigeria Suspends 5% Tax on Telecom Services

INTRO


Nigeria's federal government has suspended a five percent excise duty,  special tax on telecommunications services in Nigeria.


Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who announced this on Monday said the sector is already overburdened by excessive and multiple taxations.


The government had in July said it would start implementing a five percent tax on telecommunications services in Nigeria as a way of generating more revenue for the country.

Legal and human rights takes to court to contest new mobile money levies

The Legal and Human Rights Center has filed a case in the High Court opposing the introduction of new levies on electronic money transactions.
In July this year, Parliament amended the National Payment System Act by imposing a new levy on all electronic money transactions to raise government revenue.

India's tech hub Bangalore hit by flooding

Many parts of the Indian tech hub city of Bengaluru – also known as Bangalore – are under water due to heavy monsoon rains, bringing parts of the city to a standstill and causing power cuts.

Kazakhstan Says Xi Jinping To Visit Next Week

One of the Saskatchewan stabbing suspects found dead say Canadian Police

Police in Canada say 31-year-old Damien Sanderson, one of the suspects wanted in connection with a series of stabbings in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, has been found dead and that the wounds did not seem to be self-inflicted.

Police say they are still hunting for his brother 30-year-old Myles Sanderson who may have sustained injuries.

Manhunt continues in Canada after 10 people stabbed to death

Police in Canada say the two suspects wanted in connection with a series of stabbings in the province of Saskatchewan have still not been found.

30-year-old Myles Sanderson and 31-year-old Damien Sanderson have been charged with first degree murder after ten people were stabbed to death on Sunday and 18 others were injured.

Federal Judge approves Trump request for "Special Master"

A federal judge has approved Donald Trump's request for an external expert to review the documents taken by the FBI following their search of his Mar A Lago home in August.

EU's Borrell "less optimistic" about speedy revival of Iran Nuclear Deal

The European Union's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell says he's less optimistic about reviving the Iran nuclear deal than he was just a day or two ago.


Brussels mediates indirect negotiations between Tehran & Washington on the 2015 accord, which secured sanctions relief for Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme.


The deal has been in tatters since 2018 when the US withdrew. Tehran has since ramped up its nuclear activities.

EU's expectations of the UK have "not changed one iota" amid Tory leadership contest

2016 France terror attack trial begins
