White House refuses to confirm US House Speaker Taiwan trip

There is increasing speculation - although no official confirmation -
that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Taiwan in the coming
hours.

US and Taiwanese officials have said the trip is going ahead, despite
warnings from Beijing it will retaliate.

Secretary of State backs Pelosi Taiwan visit

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says he would support a move
by Nancy Pelosi to visit Taiwan.

The Speaker of the House's visit hasn't been confirmed but China says
it could have an egregious political impact.

Stocks slide to start new trading month

U.S. stocks opened the new trading month on a downbeat note as traders

Far-right militia member sentenced to 87 months for role in Jan. 6th attack

Guy Reffitt - a member of the far-right militia group the Three Percenters - has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison for his involvement in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The sentence is the longest given to a rioter thus far, but much lighter than the 15 years federal prosecutors were seeking.

Reffitt, who is from Wylie, Texas, is the first Capitol rioter convicted at trial.

At Least Two People Dead in Major California Wildfire

Fire crews in California are battling a major wildfire which has killed two people and forced thousands to flee their homes.

US officials confirm House Speaker Pelosi will visit Taiwan

ISWAP Claims Latest Attack in Abuja
