England win women's Euro 2022 Championship final

The England Women's football team won the Euro 2022 Championship at Wembley Stadium over the Weekend.


Around 87k people - a record crowd for women's football - attended the final against Germany.

ISWAP Claims Latest Attack in Abuja

The Islamic States West Africa Province, ISWAP has been identified to be responsible for last week's attack on a military checkpoint on the outskirts of Abuja – Nigeria's capital.

 

The group is a splinter faction of terror group, Boko Haram which has been operating in Nigeria and other countries in the Lake Chad basin for over a decade.

SUNAK PLEDGES TO CUT TAXES IF VOTED CONSERVATIVE LEADER

Former UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has announced he would cut taxes further if he is chosen to be the next leader of the Conservative Party.

Pelosi gives details of Asia trip but no mention of Taiwan

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is " leading a Congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific region, including visits to Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan."

That's according to a press release from the Speaker's office which did not mention a visit to Taiwan.

Actress Nichelle Nichols, Lt Uhura on Star Trek, dead at 89

The actress Nichelle Nichols who played the iconic role of Lieutenant Uhura on the original "Star Trek" series has died at the age of 89.


The news was announced by her son, with whom she had been living in New Mexico while she battled ill health.


The creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, cast her as Lieutenant Uhura at a time when black actresses were usually relegated to playing the roles of servants, not characters in positions of authority.


She planned to leave the series after the first season, but was talked out of it by civil rights leader Reverend Martin Luther King during a chance meeting, as Nichols recalled during a 2011 appearance at the "92nd Street Y" in New York.

US Supreme Court judge jokes about abortion ruling criticism from foreign leaders

A conservative member of the US Supreme Court has mocked world leaders who condemned a controversial ruling last month overturning abortion rights in America.

Monkeypox spreads to 26 states in Nigeria

Eurozone inflation surges to new record of 8.9%

Eurozone inflation soared again to 8.9% in July, according to flash estimates from the European Union's statistics agency. 


That's a new record for the 19 countries which use the euro currency.

India watches closely as reports emerge of Chinese "research" ship heading towards Sri Lanka
