EAST AFRICA DEFENCE CHIEFS MEET TO PLAN FOR REGIONAL FORCE

Chiefs of Defence Forces from the East African Community are in the Democratic Republic of Congo to agree on the initial modalities of establishing a regional force that will assist in the restoration of peace and security in the country.

Pope Francis condemns Nigeria church attack as Victims receive treatment in hospital

Pope Francis has condemned the attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo local government area of Ondo state, expressing his condolences to the victims' families.

 

Unknown gunmen attacked the church on Sunday, killing dozens of worshippers and injuring several Others. They reportedly detonated explosives before firing at the congregation.

But dozens of his own MPs voted against him.

The attempt to remove him as party leader followed a damning report into parties and gatherings in and around Downing Street during lockdown.

Proud boys' leader and four others indicted in Jan 6 Capitol attack

Five members of the extremist group 'Proud Boys' have been charged with seditious conspiracy by the Justice Department for their part in the January 6th Capitol riot.

Johnson survives confidence vote, but suffers substantial rebellion

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived again…winning a vote of no confidence in his leadership.


But the Prime Minister faced a significant rebellion, with more than 40 percent of conservative lawmakers voting against him.


The result of the vote was announced by Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party's 1922 Committee.

UK Chancellor: new energy bills package will have "minimal" impact on inflation


As Conservative MPs decide whether to back Boris Johnson to continue as UK Prime Minister…the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has been grilled in Parliament on the rising cost of living.

Uncertainty over how UK confidence vote will transpire for Prime Minister Johnson

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a vote of confidence later, and it's still uncertain exactly what the result might be.


Around about 120 Conservative MPs have pledged their support publicly for him.


But there have been many who have spoken out against Johnson too, including former anti-corruption tsar John Penrose - who has resigned over the past few hours.


He says "it's pretty clear" that the Prime Minister has broken the ministerial code and that he should resign.

Momentum grows on gun control deal in US Congress, despite staunch opposition

A spate of shootings over the weekend in several US cities has strengthened calls for stricter gun control, as lawmakers insist they're "more confident than ever" that a deal can be reached.

UK Liberal Democrat party leader urges conservative party to remove Boris Johnson from office

Opposition party leaders are calling on the Conservative party to remove Boris Johnson from his role as Prime Minister.


A confidence vote will take place later, after the threshold of 54 letters of no confidence were submitted to the 1922 committee.

TRIAL OF SINGAPORE NATIONAL ACCUSED OF WIFE'S MURDER POSTPONED
