Uganda Registers Rise in COVID-19 Infections

Uganda is registering a sharp rise in the number of new COVID-19 infections in the country.

 

Health officials say some people have been hospitalized… with both mild and severe symptoms.

 

The government says it is prepared to respond to the new infections and has ruled out the return to any travel or lockdowns restrictions.

Opposition Labour Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, encourages Conservative MPs to vote to remove the Prime Minister

The Opposition Labour party has demanded that Conservative Members of Parliament oust Prime Minister Boris Johnson from leadership.


A vote of no confidence will take place on Monday evening, in which Conservative MPs will vote in secret over whether MR Johnson should remain in office or not.


The PM needs a majority of 180 votes to win.


Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer claims it would be in the country's best interest to remove Boris Johnson from office.

Vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson's leadership Will take place

A vote of no confidence in UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's leadership has been triggered.


Prime Minister Johnson has come under heavy fire from the public over the partygate scandal in which he received a fixed penalty notice for breaking Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.


Now, many of his own party feel he's not right to remain in office, with 54 letters given to the 1922 committee to enact the vote.


Sir Graham Brady Chairs that committee and says the vote will take place later this evening.

JOHNSON 'TO FACE CONFIDENCE VOTE'

There could be a confidence vote in the UK Prime Minister as soon as this week.

India's ruling party suspends spokeswoman over Islam comments

A national spokeswoman has been suspended from India's ruling BJP following comments she is reported to have made against Islam.


Nupur Sharma reportedly insulted the prophet Mohammed in comments made during a TV debate. The incident has triggered a diplomatic row in some Gulf countries.

EU targets biggest Russian bank, oil in latest round of sanctions

The European Union has adopted a sixth package of sanctions on Moscow, 100 days after the invasion of Ukraine.


The new restrictions include individual sanctions on people the bloc holds responsible for reported atrocities in Bucha, cutting Russia's biggest bank off from the SWIFT international payments system, and banning seaborne imports of Russian oil. 


The sanctions were agreed at a political level among EU leaders earlier this week, but technical disagreements had to be overcome before the new measures could be formally adopted.
