UK BEGINS JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

The UK's beginning four days of Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II.

She's been on the throne for 70 years, but says she continues to be inspired by the goodwill shown towards her.

Events begin in London with a Trooping the Colour ceremony, an air force flypast, and a balcony appearance from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

These people have been camped out on the Mall for days.

Australia – Paedophile former television star to be deported to UK

A former Australian television star and convicted sex offender will be deported to the UK after being granted parole in the state of New South Wales.


In 2014 Robert Hughes,  the star of the tv sitcom Hey Dad, which ran for eight series and aired in over 20 countries worldwide, was jailed for at least six years over the sexual abuse of four girls in the '80s and '90s.

Authorities OK nuclear power plant restart in western Japan

Authorities in Japan's western prefecture of Shimane have approved a plan to restart a nuclear reactor.  It has been idled since the 2011 Fukushima disaster, along with other plants. But the country is pushing to increase energy from nuclear power amid soaring oil and coal prices.

Investigators now say door used by gunman in Uvalde massacre was not left open by a teacher
