Wall St drops as oil rises

Wall St struggled to gain ground in Wednesday's trading, as oil prices rose 5%.

The backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine continued to worry investors
who are still trying to navigate volatile trading sessions.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, dead at 84


Madeleine Albright, America's first female secretary of State has died at the age of 84.


She'd been battling cancer.


Born in Czechoslovakia, her family moved to the United States when she was just 11 after fleeing first the Nazis and then the Communists.


President Bill Clinton appointed her to be America's Ambassador to the United Nations, and then promoted her to the State Department.


She was a proponent of NATO expansion, and urged the White House to take a stronger position on the conflict in Bosnia.

US declares Russia committing war crimes in Ukraine

NATO leaders to agree new battle group deployments on Eastern flank amid Ukraine conflict

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says member nations are expected to agree to further beef up the alliance's Eastern flank, with new battle group deployments in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia. 

Stoltenberg made the comments ahead of an extraordinary summit to be held in Brussels on Thursday, when the leaders of all 30 NATO allies, including US President Joe Biden, are expected at the alliance HQ.

Spring Statement: British Chancellor unveils mini-budget

Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced he is slashing fuel duty by 5p a litre and lifting the threshold for National Insurance contributions by £3000, among other measures to help British households weather the cost of living crisis.


Sunak also unveiled the first cut to the basic rate of income tax in 16 years - by the end of Parliament in 2024.


He's also cutting VAT on green home improvements to zero.
