UK SENDS MEDICAL AID TO UKRAINE, CONTINUES DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS

The UK's sent three planes with 320 000 medical items on board, to help the humanitarian effort in Ukraine.

It comes as the UK's Defence, Foreign, and Culture and Sport ministers hold diplomatic talks on the crisis with international counterparts,

More than 1 million refugees flee Ukraine

More than a million people have now fled Ukraine according to the
United Nations.

The organization says the conflict is likely to create the biggest
refugee crisis in Europe this century.

No progress after latest Macron-Putin call

The French and Russian presidents have held another phone call, as efforts continue by western allies to try to stop the war in Ukraine.

In a speech to the nation on Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron said he would continue to talk to Vladimir Putin in the hope that dialogue would help end the invasion.

DRC HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

INTRO:

More than 100 international humanitarian organisations operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo have launched a 1.8 billion dollar appeal to help people displaced by conflict get their basic needs.
The aid agencies say 27 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in the DRC mainly due to an armed conflict in the country's east. Chris Ocamringa has more from Kinshasa.

GERMANY TO SEND SOVIET-ERA MISSILES TO UKRAINE

Germany has announced it will send more weapons to Ukraine to help the country defend itself against Russia's invasion. 

The new weapons include missiles designed to help target Russian jets - as the battle for Ukraine's airspace remains contested between the two sides.

EU to grant Ukrainian refugees easier access to labor market

One week has passed since Russia invaded Ukraine and the United Nations says at least one million people have now fled the conflict.

PRESIDENT BUHARI APPROVES $8.5M FOR EVACUATION OF NIGERIANS IN UKRAINE AS FIRST BATCH ARRIVES TODAY


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved $8.5m dollars to the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development, for the evacuation of over 5,000 (registered and unregistered) Nigerians stranded in Ukraine.

 

A flight carrying the first batch of evacuees is expected to arrive Nigeria today.

Australia – Stolen Generation survivors to receive payout

Survivors of the Stolen Generation will be paid $100,000 and receive a personal apology from the government in the Australian state of Victoria.

NYT: Chinese Officials Told Russian Officials Not to Invade Ukraine Before End of Winter Games


The New York Times has reported that senior Chinese officials told Russian counterparts in early February not to invade Ukraine before the end of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

4000 luxury cars sink after cargo ship fire near Azores

A cargo ship that was carrying thousands of luxury cars has sunk in the Atlantic ocean off the Portuguese Azores archipelago
