The UK says it's stepping up efforts to persuade European countries to kick Russia out of the SWIFT international payments system.

Britain and the US believe the move would make a significant impact on the Russian economy.

SWIFT is used by thousands financial institutions around the world to send money and information to each other.

In response to the invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration has laid out new measures to make it harder for Russia to do business and access finances around the world. 


US President Joe Biden said the new sanctions would have a long-term impact on the Russian economy, while minimizing the impact on the United States.

US stands with Ukraine after Russia mounts large-scale military assault

The US says it will stand with Ukraine as it faces a full-scale military assault from Russia.


The Whitehouse released a statement stating that US President Joe Biden had been in contact with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and that the US administration strongly condemns Putin's actions.


President Zelensky also asked Biden to call on the leaders of the world to speak out against the Russian attacks on Ukraine.

NATO has no plans to send troops to Ukraine

Amid a Russian attack on Ukraine, the NATO defensive alliance is planning to increase troop numbers on its Eastern flank. 


But Secretary General Jens Stoltenverg confirmed there would be no NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine -- because the country is not a member of the alliance.
