Met Police chief resigns "with great sadness"

The head of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, says that she had no option but to resign after losing the confidence and support of Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London.

Her decision came just hours after she told a radio interviewer that she had no intention of yielding to her critics.

But she says once the Mayor had rejected as inadequate her proposals to reform the police after revelations of racism, bullying and misogyny within the force, she had to go.
