Disappointing December for UK retailers, according to new footfall data


Footfall in stores and shopping centres across the UK was down almost 20% in December compared to pre-COVID levels.

The disappointing festive season for retailers is being blamed on the new Omicron variant, which emerged in late November.

French MPs approve bill to convert Covid-19 health pass into a vaccine pass

French MPs have approved the government's proposed legislation to convert the Covid-19 health pass into a vaccine pass.

The bill would essentially remove the possibility of using a negative test result to enter cafes, restaurants and cinemas.

India's daily COVID-19 cases jump 56% as Omicron spreads through large cities

Cases of COVID-19 in India are now growing twenty-one times faster than at the peak of the second wave in May.

The country added more than 90,000 new infections on Thursday – nearly 58% up from the previous day.

Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers seek new trial after bombshell revelation about juror

Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell are calling for her to face a new trial on sex trafficking charges after the judge in her case agreed to investigate possible jury misconduct.


Prosecutors told the judge on Wednesday that a juror may have failed to disclose that he was a victim of past sexual abuse, possibly impacting the guilty verdict in the case.

CDC panel recommends Pfizer boosters for 12 to 15-year-olds

Kids as young as 12 years old could soon be rolling up their sleeves for a Pfizer booster shot after an advisory panel to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday recommended the third jab for adolescents.

The final decision is now left to the CDC director, who is expected to give the final sign-off later on Wednesday, paving the way for shots to start rolling out as soon as this week.

Djokovic's Australian visa cancelled, ordered to leave Melbourne immediately

Unvaccinated tennis star Novak Djokovic has been told to leave Australia after he attempted to enter the country seeking a medical exemption against the Covid-19 vaccine.


He was held overnight at the airport in Melbourne with members of his team.

Grammy awards postponed amid Omicron surge

Organizers of the Grammy Awards have postponed this year's ceremony in Los Angeles due to the Omicron surge in the US.

The annual event, which showcases some of the music industry's biggest stars, was supposed to take place on January 31st.

Justice Department work not yet done, one year after January 6th Capitol attack

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland spoke on the eve of the anniversary of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

He said the Justice Department's investigation has led to the arrest of more than 725 defendants across the U.S. for their roles, of which 145 defendants have pleaded guilty.

Garland said the search for justice continues, and he appealed for more information from members of the public to help identify more people involved that day.

At least 13 dead in Philadelphia apartment fire

UK scraps need for pre-departure for those arriving in England test from Friday

People arriving in England will no longer need to take the pre-departure Covid test in new rules brought in from 4am UK time on Friday. Latest covid surge could peak soon; class cancelled in Chicago as teachers vote to go online
