Trump chief of staff facing criminal contempt charge as his role in attempts to overturn election emerges

President Donald Trump's last chief of staff could face a criminal charge after a House panel investigating the January 6th attack on the US Capitol voted to hold him in contempt for defying a subpoena.

The committee also released a series of text messages from Donald Trump's son and Fox News hosts showing how they had urged Mark Meadows to get President Trump to call off the rioters.

The criminal contempt of Congress referral could be taken up by the full house as soon as Tuesday.

Global projections suggest U.S. will get a wave of coronavirus infections from Omicron

UK government scraps travel "red list"

The UK government is removing all 11 countries from its travel "red list" as the new Omicron coronavirus variant takes hold.

UK Prime Minister confirms first Omicron death as government warns of rise in hospitalizations

The British government is warning that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is now spreading rapidly, with hospitalizations expected to rise dramatically in the days and weeks ahead.

Britain's health secretary Sajid Javid said the variant is now responsible for a fifth of Covid-19 cases in the UK and he again urged everyone over the age of 18 to sign up for a booster shot as soon as possible.

64 dead in Kentucky tornadoes, final toll likely to rise

Desparate search and rescue operations are still underway across 6 separate American states following the record-breaking tornadoes that ripped through a 225 mile corridor in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At least 105 people remain unaccounted for, with several towns in Kentucky obliterated from the map by the storm.

They include Dawson's Springs and Mayfield…where dogs are being used in the search for survivors and human remains.

One dead in maritime crash in Swedish waters

One of two Danish crew members missing from a capsized barge has been found dead in the hull after an overnight collision with a British cargo vessel in the Baltic Sea.
