UK TRAVEL BAN ON 6 AFRICAN NATIONS BEGINS

A travel ban on six African countries is being imposed by the UK government from Friday because of concerns about a new coronavirus variant.

South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini and Zimbabwe will be added to the red list for travel to England.

Direct flights will be suspended until hotel quarantine facilities open on Sunday.

Health secretary Sajid Javid says it's very concerning.

Hong Kong prepares to re-open border with China

The Hong Kong government says it has met all the basic requirements required by Beijing for a re-opening of the border with China. Officials say they are now finalizing how to implement new health measures to allow quarantine-free travel to resume.

Man Utd close to appointed new interim manager

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Lokomotiv Moscow's Ralf Rangnick to become interim manager at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

SIBERIAN COAL MINE INCIDENT LEAVES 11 DEAD

Russia's President Putin has expressed his condolences to the victims of a coal mining incident that took place in Siberia on Thursday.

At least 11 miners have died, 49 were injured, and the fate of 35 more is unknown — after a fire broke out 250 metres underground.

27 people die in English Channel migrant disaster

27 people have died after the inflatable craft they were using to try to cross the English Channel sank.

Multiple migrants die after attempting to cross the English Channel


More than 20 migrants attempting to cross the English Channel from France have died.


French authorities say they attempted the crossing in an inflatable dinghy that capsized outside of Calais on Wednesday.


Several others have been reported injured or missing.

WHO warns Europe and Central Asia could face extra 700,000 deaths

The World Health Organization has warned Europe and Central Asia could face another 700,000 COVID-19 deaths by March next year.
