Doctors say the government in England should move to Plan B covid restrictions due to an 'unacceptable' level of cases.

The British Medical Association says ministers are being 'wilfully negligent'.

Health minister Edward Argar says the focus is on encouraging eligible people to come forward for booster vaccines.

HEALTH BOSSES URGE UK COVID RESTRICTIONS

Health chiefs in the UK are urging the government to reintroduce some covid-19 restrictions immediately as cases continue to spike.

There were over 40 000 confirmed covid-19 cases in the UK in the last 24 hours, and over 200 deaths recorded.

But the government says it has no plans to toughen restrictions because hospitalisations remain low due to vaccination.

And Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng is ruling out the country needing to go back into lockdown this winter.
