Southern Chinese city ramps up measures in new COVID outbreak

The southwestern Chinese city of Putian is ramping up restrictions as it battles a new COVID outbreak.


State media calls the situation "serious and complex", as the city braces for more new cases in communities, schools and factories.

Californians Head to Polls on Gubernatorial Recall Election

Californians head to the polls on Tuesday for the recall election of Governor Gavin Newsom. 

It's only the 2nd recall election in the state ever to qualify for the ballot. 

The previous recall resulted in actor Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming governor.

New York children return to classroom

US ready to defend allies over North Korea missile launch

UK under 16s could get Pfizer jabs to prevent school outbreaks

Every child in the UK aged 12 or over could be offered a Covid-19 vaccine in the next few weeks, after the country's chief medical officers recommended extending the rollout to under-16s.


If ministers decide to implement the advice as policy, 12-15 year olds will have the chance to get a single dose of the Pfizer jab.

ECOWAS begins mediation with coup leaders in Guinea.


The West African regional bloc, ECOWAS has begun talks with leaders of the military Special Forces that overthrew Guinean President, Alpha Conde. They want the coup leaders to return the country to civilian rule. But, while the coup leader, Col. Mamady Doumbouya says he'll form a new government to oversee the transition, it is unclear when that will be done.

UK COVID WINTER STRATEGY TO BE REVEALED

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's expected to say the country's focus will be on vaccination not lockdowns to deal with covid-19 this winter.
