It was a mixed close for the U.S. markets Monday as investors await
the conclusion of the Federal Reserve's two day policy meeting on
Wednesday.

With inflation on the rise, traders are eager to hear whether the Fed
plans to take action.

NATO brands China as a 'systemic' threat in first alliance summit in two years

NATO has branded China a 'security risk', following the first face-to-face summit of the alliance in two years. 

US President Joe Biden used the meeting to urge his fellow NATO leaders to take a more forceful stance against Beijing. 

There was also discussion over how the alliance should respond to aggressive tactics from Russia, and how to modernise in the face of transnational threats like cybersecurity and climate change.

ENGLAND UNLOCKING DELAYED BY A MONTH

So-called 'Freedom Day' in England is being delayed by a month due to the spread of the Delta covid-19 variant first identified in India.

All restrictions had been due to be lifted from June 21st...

But Prime Minister Boris Johnson says that's being pushed back until July 19th so more people can be vaccinated.

ICC Prosecutor calls for probe into Philippines drug killings

The International Criminal Court has been asked to investigate alleged crimes against humanity in the Philippines. 

In a major escalation between the court and Manilla, The Hague's top prosecutor said she had determined an investigation should go ahead over President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody war on drugs campaign.

Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine more than 90% effective in phase 3 trial


Biotech firm Novavax says its COVID-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective in a phase three trial conducted in the U.S. and Mexico.

G7 summit draws to a close

G7 nations have agreed to tackle climate change, rebuild the global economy and learn the lessons from Covid-19 after they convened for their annual summit, held this year in south-west England. 

 

The leaders of the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan were joined in person by Australia, South Africa, South Korea and senior EU figures in the coastal resort of Carbis Bay in Cornwall, with India attending remotely.

UK vaccine minister confident coronavirus vaccine targets will be met in England and Scotland

The UK's coronavirus r number has risen from 1 to 1.2 to 1.2 to 1.4.
