The final easing of lockdown restrictions in England is expected to be put on hold for four weeks.

Social distancing rules were due to end next Monday under Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap - but some scientists have expressed concern about the spread of the Delta variant discovered in India.

Joe Biden to attend NATO summit in Brussels

G7 summit draws to a close

G7 nations have agreed to tackle climate change, rebuild the global economy and learn the lessons from Covid-19 after they convened for their annual summit, held this year in south-west England. 

 

The leaders of the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan were joined in person by Australia, South Africa, South Korea and senior EU figures in the coastal resort of Carbis Bay in Cornwall, with India attending remotely.

UK vaccine minister confident coronavirus vaccine targets will be met in England and Scotland

The UK's coronavirus r number has risen from 1 to 1.2 to 1.2 to 1.4.


There has been a slow rise in coronavirus infections in the UK, with the Office for National Statistics estimating that one in every 560 in England had Covid-19 in the week starting June 5th.
