German Chancellor to meet Biden at White House

Joe Biden is set to welcome German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the White House next month, making her the first European leader to visit Washington for in-person talks with the US President.

Mr Biden has already met with Japan's Prime Minister and South Korea's President.

Australian court orders multimillion dollar payout for government debt collection scheme

An Australian Federal Court justice has slammed the governments Robodebt scheme, describing it as a "shameful chapter" in the countries history and a failure of public administration.


The scheme saw more than 400,00 Australians pursued by the countries social security provider Centerlink, for about $1.7 billion in welfare overpayments that were later found to be incorrect.

The UK and the US have pledged hundreds of millions of covid-19 vaccine doses for poorer countries... after talks between Joe Biden and Boris Johnson.

Mr Biden's on his first foreign trip as US President, and met the UK Prime Minister in Cornwall in western England, ahead of the G7 summit there which starts later today.

US COVID deaths plunge, as vaccination rates drop and states scale back data

More power to South African businesses

South Africa’s Electricity Regulation Act is being amended to increase the permitted capacity of embedded generation projects. Businesses will now be able to generate up to 100 times more power, without a licence from the country’s national energy regulator. The announcement comes a day after the nation was once again plunged into Stage 4 load shedding, with national energy supplier, Eskom, unable to keep up with winter electricity demand. European Parliament in favour of waiving COVID vaccine patents

European lawmakers have voted in favour of waiving patent restrictions on Covid-19 vaccines.

That puts the European Parliament at odds with the European Commission, which has been pushing for patent restrictions to remain, along with the UK, at the World Trade Organization.
