WHO APPROVES SINOPHARM COVID-19 VACCINE FOR EMERGENCY USE

The World Health Organisation has approved a COVID-19 vaccine from Chinese drugmaker Sinopharm, for emergency use.

It's concluded the jab has an efficacy of around 79% and can be given to anyone over the age of 18.

U.S. jobs growth falls well short of expectations in April


The U.S. economy added just 266,000 jobs in April, far below the expectations of many economists.

With coronavirus case numbers falling and a rapid vaccine rollout, the U.S. had posted strong jobs figures over the last few months.

Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine becomes first to be assessed for full approval by US drug makers

The COVID-19 vaccine-maker Pfizer/ BioNTech has begun the process of applying for full approval from US drug regulators.

It’s the first COVID-19 vaccine to be assessed for full- not just emergency- endorsement from the US Food and Drug Administration.


The news comes as Pfizer celebrates two studies showing its vaccine is highly effective against new variants.

Under 40s in UK to be offered alternative to AZ jab

Most adults in the UK under the age of 40 will now be offered an alternative to the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, due to a link with rare blood clots.


Whilst the risk of clots is extremely low, it is found to be slightly higher amongst younger age groups.

Conservatives triumph over Labour in historic UK by-election victory

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party has won a crucial by-election in the north of England.


Its candidate recorded a convincing victory in Hartlepool, a seat that had been held by Labour since the constituency was formed nearly 50 years ago. 


It's a huge blow to Labour's Sir Keir Starmer in his first election test since taking over as leader.


The vote was held as millions of ballots were also cast for the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments, as well as councils and mayoralties across England, with results expected over the coming days.

German Parliament approves vaccine privileges law

The German Parliament has approved plans to extend extra rights to those who have received a Covid-19 vaccine.

Uganda Registers Increasing Cases of COVID-19

Australia – Flights from India to resume on May 15

Japan extends and expands state of emergency

Hong Kong faces public pushback over quarantine measures

U.S. President Joe Biden visits Louisiana to sell infrastructure plan

EU 'ready to discuss' patent waiver for vaccines ahead of Porto summit

French fisherman leave Jersey port after fishing license protest

A protest that saw dozens of French fishing vessels descend on the island of Jersey has come to an end. French fishermen, in 60 boats, had convened at the island, a dependency of the United Kingdom just off the French coast, to express their fury at new fishing rules, introduced under the Brexit deal signed last year.
