Travel into Australia from covid ravaged India was halted last week in a controversial move by the government that threatened a possible jail sentence for anyone that failed to observe the ban.

The Hong Kong government is facing pressure to relax its quarantine rules for close contacts of COVID-19 patients. Currently all residents of buildings in which a COVID variant infection is found, must undergo three weeks of quarantine at a government facility. But thousands of people have signed petitions calling for the rules to be eased.

A protest that saw dozens of French fishing vessels descend on the island of Jersey has come to an end. French fishermen, in 60 boats, had convened at the island, a dependency of the United Kingdom just off the French coast, to express their fury at new fishing rules, introduced under the Brexit deal signed last year. Millions of people across the UK are heading to the polls in the nation's biggest set of votes since the 2019 general election.
