Pfizer's COVID vaccine Q1 revs hit US$3.5B; inks new deals for 1.6M doses

US drugmaker Pfizer posted blockbuster earnings that far exceed market expectations.


The company's COVID-19 vaccine accounted for nearly a quarter of revenues which came in at $14.6 billion dollars.

EU Will Not Observe Ethiopian Elections

CONGO TO IMPOSE MILITARY RULE IN TROUBLED EAST

The Democratic Republic of Congo has imposed martial law in two provinces in the east of the country following a rise in the killing of civilians there.

The move will see all civilian authorities in Ituri and North Kivu provinces be replaced by police and military officers for a period of 30 days.

Vaccine privileges plan divides opinion in Germany

The German Government is preparing to give special privileges to those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19. 

Under plans being drafted by the Health Minister, people who have received their jab could be allowed to meet up together and skip public testing requirements. But some critics say the plans will likely anger young people, who are still months away from being invited to receive their vaccine.

The UK and India have announced trade and investment deals worth £1bn ($1.39bn).

It comes as Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Narendra Modi hold a virtual bilateral meeting.

Mr Johnson was due to visit India last month but postponed the trip because of the country's Covid-19 crisis.

India's COVID19 tally crosses 20 million mark

India recorded more than 357,000 cases and nearly 3450 deaths in the last 24 hours. Experts say the second wave is expected to peak in another two to three weeks.

Andrew Brown Jr's funeral held in Elizabeth City, North Carolina


Attorneys for the family of Andrew Brown Jr once again called for bodycam footage of his shooting to be made public as his funeral service was held in North Carolina.
