NGOs WARN SYRIA’S ECONOMY WORST SINCE CONFLICT BEGAN

Aid agencies are warning the economic situation in Syria is the worst it's ever been.

A combination of sanctions, hyperinflation, unemployment, and Covid-19 are all contributing to the country's difficulties.

At the Brussels V [five] conference, the European Union is meeting with NGOs to discuss the best ways to help.

WHO report expected to say COVID-19 originated in Chinese wildlife trade

The wildlife trade in China is the most likely origin of COVID-19 according to a draft copy of a World Health Organization report obtained by The Associated Press.


The report says that transmission of the virus from bats to humans through another animals is the most likely scenario and that a lab leak is "extremely unlikely".

Militants seize north Mozambique town, several killed, some reportedly flee to Tanzania

Islamist militants have seized control of the town of Palma in northern Mozambique, killing several people including at least one foreign worker, and forcing France's Total to suspend operations at a huge gas project.

 Initial reports indicate that the civilian population has been fleeing Palma in all directions, some all the way up into neighboring Tanzania.

Ship blocking Suez Canal partially refloated but authorities warn of further obstacles

The shipping container blocking the Suez Canal for almost a week has been moved 80% in the right direction, according to authorities in Egypt. 

The development marks the most significant movement since the ship got stuck last Tuesday - but salvage crews are warning of further obstacles to the resumption of traffic.

Sudan agrees to separate religion from state

The Sudanese government and a faction of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North or SPLM-N signed a roadmap for the country's peace talks agreeing to separate religion from state.

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) faction led by Abdel-Aziz Al-Hilu is one of two groups that are yet to sign a final peace agreement with the transitional government.

The group's key demand was that Sudan dispenses with sharia law and becomes a secular, democratic state.
