ENGLAND'S LOCKDOWN EASING

England's lockdown is easing further with outdoor sport resuming and a stay-at-home order being withdrawn.

Tennis courts and golf courses are able to reopen, and two households or groups of six people are allowed to meet outside.

The government is urging caution as lockdown restrictions are eased while much of Europe battles a new wave of Covid-19 infections.

Merkel pushes for mega lockdown as Covid-19 cases jump

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has used a primetime TV interview to ratchet up pressure on state leaders to introduce what's being described as a 'mega lockdown'.

Biden: Georgia voting law is “un-American”

US president Joe Biden has condemned a new election law in the state of Georgia introducing more stringent voting requirements.

US Justice Department charges 474 with COVID-19 Fraud

The US Department of Justice has charged 474 people for offenses linked to COVID-19 fraud schemes.

China bans and sanctions critics in the UK, including MPs

China has banned and imposed sanctions on nine British citizens vocally critical of Beijing - including five Members of Parliament - for spreading what it says is "lies and disinformation" about the country.

EU warns AstraZeneca to fulfil contract but stops short of an all-out export ban

The EU has stopped short of an all-out ban on vaccine exports, but has issued a strong warning to AstraZeneca to fulfil all its contractual obligations before it exports overseas.

Nigeria develops two COVID-19 vaccines

UK TO 'KEEP WORKING' WITH EU ON VACCINES ISSUE

The UK's calling on the EU to 'stick to' contractual arrangements on vaccines.

It comes after EU leaders stepped back from imposing tougher vaccine export controls at a summit in Brussels.

However, European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen has told drug company AstraZeneca it must honour its contract with the EU before exporting any more doses from the bloc.

UK cabinet minister Robert Jenrick says Brussels has done the right thing in not imposing a full export ban to Britain.

UNICEF confirms delays in India vaccine deliveries

UNICEF has confirmed that India will likely delay deliveries of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine doses to the WHO-backed COVAX facility for March and April.

Sources in the Indian government say while the country is not banning the export of COVID19 vaccines, it is prioritising domestic requirements and that New Delhi will honour existing contracts in a phased manner.
