Africa wants waiver on intellectual property for vaccines

Intro 

The African Union has endorsed the idea of a waiver on Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights at the World health Organisation. 
The proposal initiated by India and South Africa in October last year seeks to pause enforcement of Intellectual property rights on Covid-19 treatment related  products like vaccines during the pandemic period.
The continent says this will enable local manufacturing of the products and in the long run enhance equitable access , that is currently a big issue.

Unemployment Rises In The UK

CHINA DONATES VACCINES TO UGANDA

UK GOVT: VACCINE PASSPORTS WON'T BE MANDATORY IN ALL SETTINGS

The UK's launching a review into so-called 'Vaccine Passports' for covid-19, but says they would not be appropriate in all circumstances.

The review forms part of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's 'roadmap' out of lockdown restrictions.

Discussions had already started between the UK and countries looking at requiring vaccination certificates for international travel to resume.

China Slams "Slanderous" Xinjiang Attacks

China has pushed back on its treatment of ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang province at the United Nations' four-week-long Human Rights Council session, which kicked off on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, State Councillor Wang Yi called the accusations slanderous attacks, and said minorities in Xinjiang enjoyed freedom of religion and labour rights.

EU foreign ministers give the nod to new Russia sanctions over Navalny

Foreign ministers from EU countries have agreed to place further sanctions against Russian officials over the jailing of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. 

If the measures are approved by EU leaders in mid-March, it will mark the first time the EU has used a new sanctions regime for human rights abuses.

UK PM sets out roadmap to end Covid-19 lockdown

Boris Johnson has unveiled his roadmap to lift coronavirus lockdown restrictions in England. 


As he laid out his plans to Parliament, the UK Prime Minister said he hoped the nation was on a "one way road to freedom" after a "wretched year."


But, he warned that there was "no credible" route to totally eliminating coronavirus and achieving a "zero-COVID" status.

Uganda's Bobi Wine Withdraws Election Petition
