U.S. adds a tepid 49,000 jobs in January

The U.S. economy added 49,000 jobs in January after a sharp
contraction the month before.

It's the first monthly jobs report of the Biden administration and the
President says it highlights need for another coronavirus relief
package.

As Russian, EU's top diplomats meet, relations at 'low point' over Navalny

U.S. death toll from coronavirus hits 454,000 amid Super Bowl warnings

The U.S. death toll from the coronavirus has hit 454,000, amid warnings the highly infectious COVID-19 variant first identified in the UK is spreading fast,  and could undermine vaccine efforts.

The number of new infections in the U.S. has fallen by 17 per cent this week. Still, public health officials are pleading with Americans not to host parties and avoid large gatherings for the Super Bowl this Sunday.

EU top envoy calls for immediate release of Navalny during Moscow visit

UK hoteliers unsure on rules for new Covid-19 hotel quarantine plan

The Australian state of Victoria has passed legislation to ban LGBTIQ+
conversion therapy within the state.
The bill passed without any amendments in the State's Upper House, 27
votes to nine and will become law.

Ethicists speak out against early freedoms for vaccine recipients

A leading group of German ethicists have spoken out against lifting lockdown restrictions for those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19. 

Speaking in Berlin, the scientists predicted such moves could cause tensions in society, by pitting the vaccinated against the non-vaccinated.

HOTELS BOOKED FOR UK QUARANTINE

The UK government is block-booking thousands of hotel rooms to prepare for new quarantine measures for international arrivals.

From February 15th UK residents arriving from a designated list of covid-19 hotspots will face 10 day mandatory hotel quarantine at their own cost.

The government believes more than 1000 people a day will arrive in England from these locations and need to enter isolation in a hotel.
