President Trump sees more high profile resignations


Education Secretary Betsy de Vos has become the second US cabinet member to resign in the wake of the riots in the US Capitol.

 

She joins Transport Secretary Elaine Chao who was the first, as well as several other administration officials, all who have decided it is time to distance themselves from the President of the United States.

Hong Kong democracy activists say arrests won't stop their campaigning

Boeing Settles 737 Max Criminal Charges with Department of Justice

Being has agreed to pay more than 2.5 billion dollars to settle criminal charges with the US Justice Department. 

The DOJ says Boeing concealed information about its 737 Max airplanes.

French government rules out full lockdown but extends Covid-19 containment measures

The French prime minister says that the nationwide curfew currently in place from 8pm-6am will last until at least the 20th January.

The government held a news conference to lay out its vaccination strategy and explain its extension of certain shutdown measures, such as keeping bars and restaurants closed until at least the middle of next month.

UN says Guterres saddened by events at US Capitol, slams attacks on media

The United Nations has also weighed in on Wednesday's violence in Washington D.C., with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issuing a statement saying he was saddened by the events that unfolded at the US Capitol.

Democrat leaders call for Pence, Cabinet to remove Trump from office

Facebook Bans Trump

Facebook has banned US president Donald Trump from its platforms for at least the next two weeks, another blow to the president's ability to communicate through social media.

Sadiq Khan pleads with UK citizens to stay at home

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has pleaded with UK citizens to stay at home as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise.


Over 30,000 people are now being treated in UK hospitals after testing positive for the virus.


Mr Khan warned that people should only leave their homes if they have a 'very, very, good reason'...


...and he added that hospital beds may run out in London in the next couple of days, and that NHS staff are suffering from trauma that may take years to recover from.

Biden certified as next US president after revolt in Washington DC

Joe Biden has been certified as America's next US President after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building.


The revolt came after president Donald Trump addressed a large crowd in Washington DC, ordering them to show strength.


As a result, four people have been confirmed dead, including a woman who was shot in the chest.


After the mayhem had been contained by armed police, US lawmakers reconvened.
