EU and UK seek a breakthrough in Brexit crunch talks

Talks between the UK and EU are resuming today in a final big to agree a post-Brexit trade deal. 

With negotiations on a knife edge, Boris Johnson has indicated he could walk away without a deal.

Reports of a major breakthrough on fishing rights have been denied by Downing Street.

India's Serum Institute seeks emergency use approval for AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine

INTRO:

The Serum Institute of India has applied for emergency use authorisation in the country for AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine, which it is manufacturing locally.

This comes after Pfizer on Saturday is understood to have applied for a similar authorisation.

India added almost 33,000 new Covid-19 infections in 24 hours on Monday, according to health ministry figures, bringing its total to close to 9.7 million confirmed cases.

Seoul moves to tougher new level of social distancing amid virus spike

Hong Kong police investigate former lawmaker in UK exile

Hong Kong police say a former opposition lawmaker who fled to the UK last week is a wanted fugitive, and have ordered part of his bank account to be frozen.

Ted Hui is being investigated over money laundering, and a possible breach of the national security law. 

Mr Hui denies wrongdoing, and is calling on financial regulators to investigate.

Health officials for five Bay Area counties are implementing the new orders now, before intensive care units near capacity.

UN urges collaboration to ensure Covid-19 vaccines reach most vulnerable

Trump's lawyer says he's "ashamed" of Republican Party

President Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani says he's ashamed of the Republican Party after its lawmakers in Pennsylvania certified that Joe Biden won the Presidential election in the state.

France sets aside $1bn to fund Covid-19 vaccine programme

The French finance minister says more than a billion dollars will be made available to support the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine.

BREXIT TALKS GO DOWN TO THE WIRE (AGAIN)

UK government sources say the chances of a Brexit deal have 'receded' after the EU toughened its position on enforcing common rules and regulations.

EU sources say there's been no change in position.
