STUDENT COVID-19 EVACUATION PLAN FOR ENGLAND

The UK is going to mount an evacuation-style operation combined with mass testing to get university students home for Christmas.

Students will be allocated travel slots to leave for home during the week of 3rd to 9th December - just as a national covid-19 lockdown ends in England.

Any that need to self-isolate would then have time to do so before joining their families for Christmas.

Unions warn the tight time-frame leaves little 'room for error'.

Universities minister Michele Donelan says the covid-19 rapid-testing element to the plan is not compulsory.
