Hong Kong activists applaud international emigration support

Hong Kong democracy activists are welcoming plans from the UK and Canada to make it easier for Hong Kongers to move there. 

The UK is creating a special visa for those seeking citizenship, while Canada is planning ways to set up what it calls a "safe haven" for Hong Kongers facing persecution under the national security law.

India's Covid-19 infections reach more than 7.7 million

India added more than 55,800 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, taking its tally to over 7.7 million, according to data from the health ministry released on Thursday.

The number of new daily cases has dropped compared to a peak in September, but medical experts believe that infections could rise again as the country's festive season begins.
