President of Kyrgyzstan resigns

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov announced his resignation on Thursday. New presidential elections will take place in three months. It follows political unrest in the Central Asian country after disputed parliamentary elections. Galina Polonskaya has more.

ENGLISH REGIONS BRACE FOR TOUGHER COVID RESTRICTIONS

Several parts of England could move into the highest tier of covid-19 restrictions within days.

Talks continue with local leaders about the Manchester area being put into the Very High alert level - with pubs and bars that don't serve food being forced to close.

London's mayor says the city should move into the High level as soon as this week.

There were 19 724 new confirmed cases recorded across the UK in the last 24 hour period.

But cabinet minister Nadhim Zahawi says the government is resisting a national lockdown for now.

France brings in night-time Covid-19 curfew in Paris and major cities

Paris, Marseille and seven other major cities in France will be placed under a night-time curfew, from 9pm to 6am as the country battles a second wave of new Covid-19 infections.


President Macron made the announcement in a television interview on Wednesday, saying the situation in French hospitals is now 'very worrying'.

WALES TO BAN TRAVEL FROM UK HIGHLY INFECTED AREAS

French minister touts 15th November as a possible Brexit deadline

BARRICK GOLD PAYS TANZANIA $40 MILLION DOLLARS AS PART OF $300 MILLION PAYOUT

A joint venture between Barrick Gold and the Tanzanian government has paid $ 40 million dollars to the Government of Tanzania.

 

The payment by Twiga Minerals Corp is part of the $300 million settlement between Tanzania and Barrick Gold to end a tax dispute. Barrick Gold paid the first installment of $100 million in May.
