BARBADOS TO REMOVE QUEEN ELIZABETH AS HEAD OF STATE

Barbados has announced its intention to remove Britain's Queen Elizabeth as its head of state and become a republic by November, 2021.

EU Commission chief Ursula von Der Leyen has delivered her first landmark state of the union address, pledging action on the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and migration. 

She warned the UK that it must uphold the terms of the Brexit divorce deal, which she said cannot be unilaterally changed.

UK rescues child from Syria caught up in Islamic State conflict

The UK has rescued a British child from Syria as part of an effort to help bring back minors left stranded in the fallout from the conflict with the militant group Islamic State.


Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab tweeted on Wednesday that "safely facilitating the return of orphans or unaccompanied British children, where possible, is the right thing to do."

India crosses the 5 million mark of COVID 19 cases

India's now recorded over 5 million confirmed coronavirus cases.

It follows a jump of over 90 000 cases in the last 24 hours to become the second country in the world to pass the 5 million mark.

UK GOVT UNDER FIRE OVER TESTING

The UK government is to prioritise coronavirus testing for healthcare workers and patients, and people in care homes.

It comes after widespread problems with people securing covid-19 tests, despite displaying potential symptoms.

The government says there's been a surge in demand for testing which has caused laboratories which process the tests to become overwhelmed.

Ethiopia starts repatriating citizens from Saudi Arabia

Uganda Refugee Killings
