GCSE RESULTS RELEASED IN UK AFTER A-LEVEL CHAOS

Results of GCSE exams taken by teenagers in the UK are being released - a week after A-Level grades led to chaos and a government U-turn.

40% of teacher-predicted A-Level grades were downgraded by an algorithm, and days later the government conceded pupils could stick with their predictions if they were higher.

GCSE candidates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will also be able to do the same in an attempt to avoid a similar outcry from students, teachers and parents.

Schools minister Nick Gibb says the attempt to moderate grades through an algorithm was the right thing to do - but admits it was applied in the wrong way.
