LEICESTER LOCKDOWN 'MAY BE EXTENDED'

The English city of Leicester may have to remain under current coronavirus restrictions longer than the rest of the country.

The city's Mayor says that's what central government is recommending due to a rise in covid-19 cases there.

Around 25% of the city's 2500 cases have been reported in the previous two weeks, according to figures from mid-June.

The rest of England is due to ease lockdown on Saturday, with pubs and restaurants allowed to reopen.

That may not happen for Leicester, according to Mayor Peter Soulsby - but he says reports of new lockdown measures are inaccurate.
