Testimony About Racial Slur in Killing of Ahmaud Arbery

One of the men accused of murdering an unarmed black man in the US state of Georgia used a racial slur after shooting him….That was part of the testimony from investigators in a hearing for the three white men accused of murdering 25 year old Ahmaud Arbery. The use of a racial epithet could factor into a federal investigation into whether hate crime charges are warranted.

Floyd’s brother to lead New York memorial

George Floyd's brother is set to lead a memorial in Brooklyn New York
on Thursday.

Thousands of people have been taking to the city's streets on a daily

Missing British girl Madeleine McCann "assumed dead"

Madeleine McCann, the British girl last seen on holiday in Portugal in 2007, is "assumed" to be dead, according to German prosecutors.

Americans prepare for Floyd memorial service, following ten days of protests

The family of George Floyd, the African American whose killing at the hands of Minneapolis police has sparked ten days of nationwide protests, are preparing to hold a private memorial service later [Thursday].

Services are planned in Houston (his hometown) and in other cities across the United States, while tensions remain high following both peaceful and violent demonstrations.

Wednesday night protests were largely peaceful, but clashes between police and protestors continued to play out in some cities.

Oil spill in Russian Arctic draws Putin's ire

A state of emergency has been declared in a region of the Russian Arctic after 20,000 tonnes of oil leaked from a power plant. GERMANY AGREES ON $146 BILLION STIMULUS PLAN

UK HOSTS INTERNATIONAL VACCINE SUMMIT

The UK is hosting a global vaccine summit (Thursday) - aiming to raise $7.4 billion to immunise 300 million more children against a series of diseases.

Over 50 countries will join the virtual summit which will also aim to ensure that if a vaccine for Covid-19 is found it will be made available worldwide.

The UK alone has pledged $2bn to the GAVI vaccine alliance ahead of the summit.

New Charges Against Officers in Death of George Floyd

After more than a week of protests, the four former police officers involved in the death of an African American man in Minneapolis all face charges. The Minnesota Attorney General's office is upgrading the charges against one former police officer involved in the death of George Floyd…and bringing new charges against three others.
