India's reports more than 9000 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

The total number of COVID 19 cases in India has exceeded 200,000.

The country recorded its largest spike till date of over 9300 fresh cases in 24 hours, making it the 7th largest outbreak across the world.

Oil spill in Russian Arctic draws Putin's ire

A state of emergency has been declared in a region of the Russian Arctic after 20,000 tonnes of oil leaked from a power plant. President Vladimir Putin scolded the region's governor after it transpired that authorities only learned of the spill from social media two days after the fact. Julia Chapman reports from Moscow.

GERMANY AGREES ON $146 BILLION STIMULUS PLAN

Germany's governing coalition has agreed to a $146 billion stimulus package, intended to soften the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.


The plan is the second major financial stimulus from Europe's largest economy in the past three months.

UK HOSTS INTERNATIONAL VACCINE SUMMIT

The UK is hosting a global vaccine summit (Thursday) - aiming to raise $7.4 billion to immunise 300 million more children against a series of diseases.

Over 50 countries will join the virtual summit which will also aim to ensure that if a vaccine for Covid-19 is found it will be made available worldwide.

The UK alone has pledged $2bn to the GAVI vaccine alliance ahead of the summit.

But the country's Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty says the search for a covid19 vaccine is unlikely to yield results this year.

CHINA WANTS "GREATER SINCERITY" FROM HSBC

New Charges Against Officers in Death of George Floyd

After more than a week of protests, the four former police officers involved in the death of an African American man in Minneapolis all face charges. Fuel Prices Drop to a Record Low in Tanzania
