California beaches and parks to close

California Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to announce the closure of all beaches from May 1st to prevent thousands flocking to the coastline in warm weather.

There are also plans to close all state parks with the announcement expected on Thursday.

Further 3.8 million Americas file for unemployment benefits

Nearly four million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last
week as the coronavirus continues to cripple the U.S. economy.

AUSTRALIA: Canberra down to zero COVID-19 cases

The Australian Capital Territory is celebrating zero active cases of coronavirus for the first time in almost two months.
The daily update on the territory's response to the virus revealed no new cases had been reported and no cases were active.
The ACT was the last Australian state or territory to record a case of coronavirus, the first infection coming on March 12.

'Most' EU countries said to support suspension of flight refund rules

Most EU states are said to support the temporary suspension the law on refunded cancelled flights to reduce pressure on the struggling airline industry. 

Twelve governments have urged the European Commission to suspend rules which offer full refunds instead of vouchers for future travel.

Coronavirus pandemic plunges French economy into worst slump since WWII

France is officially in the worst recession since the Second World War, according to data from the national statistics agency released on Thursday.

GDP shrank 5.8% in the first quarter of 2020, as Ross Cullen reports from Paris.

Europe mulls school reopening post-COVID

UK PM CHAIRS CABINET AFTER RETURN TO WORK

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is chairing his first cabinet meeting later (on Thursday) since he was hospitalised with coronavirus.

He and his partner also had a baby on Wednesday, but he's deferring paternity leave.

Mr Johnson will also lead the UK's daily covid19 press conference for the first time since coming back to work.

He's expected to set out Britain's next steps in the pandemic, but resist signalling an easing of lockdown measures.

Free coronavirus testing for all in Los Angeles

Big gains on Wall Street despite GDP figures

Wall Street posted major gains on Wednesday despite the U.S. economy

Covid-19 drug shows promising signs
