UK SET TO CONTINUE LOCKDOWN

The UK's coronavirus lockdown is expected to be extended for another three weeks.

The final decision will be made later, but Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, says the Government still believes it's "too early to make a change".

99-year-old British war veteran raises millions for the NHS

A 99-year-old war veteran has walked 100 laps of his garden to raise more than £12m ($15m) for the UK's national health service.

 

Captain Tom Moore originally wanted to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together by completing the challenge before his 100th birthday.

 

But he smashed his target after about 620,000 people made donations to his fundraising page.

Germany becomes latest country to begin to release lockdown

Germany has announced it will start easing lockdown measures, with some shops under a certain size allowed to reopen next week.

Schools can reopen on May 4th, but bars and restaurants will remain closed.  Mass gatherings banned until at least August 31st

668 sailors test positive for the coronavirus in French aircraft carrier group

More than 660 sailors who were crew members either on-board France's sole aircraft carrier or other ships in her battle group have tested positive for the coronavirus.

It comes after the outbreak was confirmed at sea and the ships have now returned to port.

UK TO EXTEND LOCKDOWN

The UK is expected to confirm a three week extension later (Thursday) to its coronavirus lockdown.

The government has already said it's too early to ease lockdown measures which have been in place over three weeks.

UK scientific advisers believe the country is reaching the peak of its outbreak, but want to ensure it has passed before the strictest social distancing rules are relaxed in any way.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock says even when the peak is reached - lockdown will only be gradually eased.

China: Imported Cases Drop But Local Transmissions Rise

China saw a drop in imported cases on cronavirus on Thursday but locally transmitted infections rose.

New asymptomatic cases increased also to 64, compared to 57 a day earlier.

Trump to announce reopening of economy for several states

Adding Trump's signature to stimulus cheques could delay aid

The US treasury department has ordered that President Donald Trump's name will be printed on cheques being sent to millions of Americans to help stimulate the economy during the Coronavirus pandemic. 

The process could delay their delivery to people struggling financially, according to reports in the Washington Post.

Death toll leaps in New York following revised count

Nearly 4,000 more people in New York City have died from Covid-19 than

US retail sales drop record 8.7%

COVID-19 closures and lockdowns caused U.S. retail sales to drop by a
record 8.7% in March.
