The new leader of the UK's Labour Party, says the Government should publish its  lockdown exit strategy next week.

Sir Keir Starmer, who became leader of the opposition nearly two weeks ago, says he supports extending the lockdown but it's only fair to tell the public how it will end.

Tanzania extends school closure, bans Union, May Day celebrations

IMF: World facing worst recession since 1930s

Public Health England failed to quickly increase coronavirus testing, says UK's Chief Scientific Advisor

The British government's Chief Scientific Advisor has admitted that coronavirus testing in the UK should have been ramped up more quickly.

 

Sir Patrick Vallance said at the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak, testing was "at the right level," but it was then "not scaled as fast as it needed to be."

France has extended its lockdown for another month until May 11 as the country continues to deal with a growing number of fatalities from the coronavirus pandemic.

Italy and Austria are taking tentative steps to relax lockdown measures this week, with some shops including bookshops, DIY stores and garden centres allowed to reopen. 

Schools and nurseries are allowed to reopen in Denmark, one of the first countries to impose strict lockdown measures.
