Trump declares national emergency

US President Donald Trump has declared a "national emergency" over coronavirus.

It means $50 billion dollars will be freed up to help tackle the
pandemic, as the number of confirmed cases surpasses 1,800.

Markets rebound after historic losses

U.S. stocks have rebounded a day after suffering its largest one-day
drop since 1987.

Investors are optimistic about the prospect of a government spending
package to help soften the economic impact caused by the Covid-19
outbreak.

UK cancels elections amid coronavirus concerns

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to postpone the local government and Mayoral elections in May, since they would have coincided with the peak of the coronavirus outbreak, potentially exposing people at its most dangerous point.

 

It comes just hours after all professional football in Britain was suspended until at least 3rd April as a result of the spread of COVID-19.

EU braces for US travel restrictions imposed by President Trump

European airports are preparing for new US restrictions which restrict travel to America for passengers from 26 countries within the Schengen zone. 

The UK and Ireland are exempt from the ban, which has been strongly criticised by European leaders.

Brazilian President tests positive for coronavirus, met Trump last weekend

UK DEFENDS COVID19 STANCE

The UK government is defending its decision to not yet close schools like many European nations.

Its latest coronavirus guidance is for anyone experiencing a new persistent cough or a fever to self-isolate for a week.

But it has stopped short of shutting schools or banning large gatherings.

Critics say more needs to be done.

US stocks plunge as Trump's coronavirus speech fails to soothe investors

The New York Stock Exchange has suffered its biggest one-day loss since the 1987 stock market crash, ending the day down nearly ten per cent in value.


The US Federal Reserve is preparing to pump $1.5 trillion in short-term liquidity into the economy in a bid to stabilize the markets.  


President Trump's televised address to the nation on coronavirus did nothing to soothe the fears of investors, as our US Correspondent Simon Marks reports.

Trump measures do little to reassure Wall St

Containment zone takes hold in NY city

Ghana bans foreign travel for government officials.

Ghana's President has temporarily suspended all foreign travel for government officials. 
It's part of efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the West African nation, which currently has no confirmed cases.

Europe reacts to bombshell US travel ban due to COVID-19

Global stocks have tumbled after the US suspended travel from Europe and the coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic. 

President Trump said in his Oval Office address that restrictions for travellers from Europe will begin on Friday at midnight, and will last for 30 days.

The measures won't apply to US citizens or travellers from the UK.
