World Health Organization Warns of Medical Supply Shortage Against Coronavirus


The World Health Organization warns that there is a chronic shortage of protective medical gear in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.  It comes as the number of confirmed cases globally surpasses 31,000.

Macron calls again for more joined-up European defence

The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has called for a more co-ordinated European defence strategy in a key speech to graduating military officers in Paris on Friday. 

The departure of Britain from the EU leaves France as the bloc's only major military power, and President Macron wants to work more closely with other countries on defence.

Chinese national falls sick on a flight, being tested for coronavirus in India

A Chinese national travelling on India's national carrier Air India was deboarded after he fell ill in New Delhi.

He's now being tested for possible exposure to the coronavirus.

Indian government extends preventive detention for local Kashmir leaders

Russia repatriates children from Syria

Kenya's Giant 'Tusker' Elephant Dies At 50

One of Kenya's oldest and celebrated elephants has died of natural causes.

Big Tim's carcass as he was fondly called was discovered in Amboseli National Park.

Tim was named by a researcher who called each elephant in a herd they were monitoring by a letter for easy identification.

Coronavirus slashes Thai Tourism

For the first time in a decade the Thai tourism sector is predicting a contraction due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak. Chinese tourists are the most important single source market for the industry in Thailand with just under 11 million visiting in 2019.

THIRD CASE OF CORONAVIRUS IN UK

A third person has been diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK.

The Chief Medical Officer for England released a statement saying the individual did not acquire the virus in Britain and is being transferred to a specialist health centre.

It comes as the World Health Organisation asks for $675 million to try and stop the outbreak.

EU diplomats call for tougher protections on UK fishing rights

European countries who fish in British waters are calling for tougher protections for their fishing crews, ahead of trade talks with the UK due to begin in March. 

Earlier this week, the EU's Chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said there was an "inextricable link" between fishing rights and any free trade deal with the UK.

Taskforce established to assist Belgian businesses with coronavirus supply issues

A task force intended to help Belgian companies deal with the potential consequences of the coronavirus will be established, it was announced by two government ministers on Thursday.

Belgium Prime Minister Visits DR Congo
