India releases National Economic Survey report; predicts growth above 6% amid slowdown

UK LEAVES THE EU!!

The UK is formally leaving the European Union, three and a half years after the Brexit referendum. At 11pm local time on 31st January, the country will enter a transition period, which lasts until the end of the year. 

During that transition, the UK will continue to obey EU rules. Most things will stay the same, but there will be some differences. Benji Hyer explains what actually changes for Britain after Friday.

The UK is finally taking the momentous step of leaving the European Union, three and a half years after the Brexit referendum, and it has an ambitious deadline to strike new trade relations with the bloc. 

At 11pm local time on 31st January, the country will enter a transition period, which lasts until the end of the year. That means by 31st December 2020, the UK and the EU aim to have signed a post-Brexit trade deal. 

Aside from trade, there also needs to be decisions on law enforcement, data sharing, security, aviation standards, access to fishing waters, supplies of electricity, and licensing of medicines.

Benji Hyer breaks what both sides hope to include in the future arrangement that has to be negotiated in the next 11 months.

Ambassador backs ex-Marine accused of espionage in Russia

Berlin approves controversial rent freeze plan

Delay to coronavirus evacuation flight leaves Britons stuck in Wuhan

A flight scheduled to bring about 200 British nationals back to the UK from Wuhan has been unable to take off. The flight was supposed to leave on Thursday from the Chinese city, where the coronavirus outbreak emerged. 


The reason for the delay is that relevant permissions from Chinese officials have not yet come through.


The UK Foreign Office says it's "working urgently" to organise a flight "as soon as possible."

The UK has been unable to provide a flight out of Wuhan in China as planned, carrying around 200 Britons.

Chinese Embassy in Uganda Warns Against Travel to China


The Chinese Embassy in Uganda has issued a travel advisory to its nationals living in the country to cancel any travels to China and those in their country to delay their return.

Russian athletics 'should face severest possible consequences' for doping
