Uganda Red Cross Scales Down Ebola Activities

Intro;

The Uganda Red Cross has scaled down their activities along the border with DR Congo due to a shortage of funds

 

The move has raised concerns over the possible spread of Ebola to Uganda after screening volunteer teams manning major entry points withdrew.

 

The relief agency says the decision to cut back on volunteers was taken by the National Task Forces headed by Uganda's Health Ministry.

UK IGNORES US OBJECTIONS TO DIGITAL SALES TAX

The UK will go ahead with a digital sales tax, despite pressure from Washington and the OECD to hold fire.


The Chancellor, Sajid Javid, says although he would like an international solution, the UK will levy the tax in the meantime.


It would apply to search engines, online marketplaces and social media companies, but Washington believes it unfairly targets US technology giants.

UN warns of more locusts attack in East Africa

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization warns that the size and destructive potential of desert locusts could swell and spill over into more countries in East Africa.

Already Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya are struggling to fight the spread of the insects that are fast devouring their crops.

India's top court refuses to stay new citizenship law

India's Supreme Court has refused to put a stay on a new citizenship law that fast tracks amensty for non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries.

The court was hearing over 140 petitions that challenge the constitutional validity of the law on the grounds that it discriminates on the basis of religion.
